Why Use Magnesium Citrate
Magnesium citrate (MgCitrate) is a 1:1 ratio of magnesium and citrate and typically yields 10+ percent elemental magnesium. The primary reason people consume magnesium citrate is for the magnesium. Good thing because magnesium is the fourth most abundant mineral in the body.
Magnesium 101
Magnesium is an essential mineral that acts as a cofactor in hundreds of enzymatic reactions in the human body. Examples: protein synthesis, muscle contraction, nerve function, blood glucose control, hormone receptor binding, blood pressure regulation, heart excitability, energy production (ATP), and nucleic acid synthesis (DNA/RNA)[i]. Magnesium is best recognized for its use in bone health supplements. Foods with relatively high magnesium content include whole grains, leafy green vegetables, legumes, and nuts.[ii]
It is believed that nearly two-thirds of the population in the Western world is not achieving the recommended daily allowance for magnesium, a deficiency problem contributing to various health conditions, including migraine headache, metabolic syndrome, blood sugar, elevated blood fats, breathing issues, premenstrual syndrome, various heart rhythm issues. Magnesium supplementation may also be considered for kidney stone and cataract prevention, support for many neurological health issues, and as a therapeutic intervention for many other health-related disorders.[iii]
Don’t forget the Citrate (Citric Acid)
Citrate is naturally found in citrus fruits and, like magnesium above, offers some health benefits. It is often used as a natural preservative in foods and beverages. Citrate is known to be a part of the Krebs cycle (energy production and more). Citrate has these health benefits associated with its consumption.[i] [ii]:
· Antioxidant
· anti-inflammatory
· Heart Health
· Kidney stone prevention
· Skin health (topical/oral)
Why MgCitrate?
When you take MgCitrate, you are taking two supplements in one. When the MgCitrate dissociates in your body (magnesium splits off from the citrate molecule), you get two different ingredients giving you more bang for your buck.
Some research suggests that Magnesium Citrate is one of the most bioavailable forms of Magnesium you can take. This means the supplement may be more easily absorbed into your bloodstream through your gut, allowing it to travel more quickly and efficiently throughout your body for maximum results. MgCitrate is also soluble in water compared to some other forms of Mg available in the marketplace.[i] Use your imagination and create/formulate something exciting with numerous potential health benefits.
